Car hire Nerja
With a population of around 200,000 inhabitants, this Eastern Malaga town has a unique, internationally town attraction –its Caves. The paintings covering its walls could be the oldest cave art found in the history of humanity. Its several rooms and galleries were declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2006. Incidentally discovered by some Andalusian youngsters in 1959, not only is it recognised by its imponderable historical and archaeological value, but also by the International Festival of Music and Dance that it hosts every year. Artists as renowned as singers Montserrat Caballé, Paco de Lucía or dancer Sara Baras have performed in this location of amazing beauty and acoustics.
Besides these ravishing geological features, Nerja has much more to offer. Its 15-kilometre coast with some beaches awarded with the European Blue Flag category, such as Playa Burriana or La Torrecilla, Balcón de Europa –former fortress and current viewpoint located in the city centre which offers splendid views of the coast, or Acueducto del Águila are other places of interest, unmissable for the tourist.
Art lovers will enjoy visiting the Mudejar Iglesia de El Salvador, or the Baroque Ermita de las Angustias. What are you waiting for to come to this idyllic town on the Eastern Costa del Sol?
Wander around its streets and beaches and feel as if you were in Verano Azul –this city was the main setting for this popular 80s series.
