Information about Milan Malpensa Airport
The airport has two terminals, the first for commercial flights and the second for charter flights, where low-cost airlines have also established themselves.
A third terminal is in the process of being built to accommodate a larger number of passengers due to the proliferation of low-cost flights, whose prices compensate for the little more than 30 kilometres that separate it from Milan.
However, Milan-Malpensa airport is also served by major airlines and in fact Alitalia has it as one of its hubs, which means that more than 35 million passengers pass through the airport each year. This volume of passengers makes it Italy's leading airport in terms of international traffic and the second in terms of number of visitors, followed by Rome Fiumicino.
Today, Milan-Malpensa is no longer exclusively dedicated to long-haul routes, with the USA, Asia and southern Africa as its main destinations. The Milan airfield now also serves routes to and from Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
It has come to be regarded as one of the worst airports in Europe for the number of delays and cancellations of its flights, yet it is undergoing continuous refurbishment and improvement.
It has all the typical services that passengers would expect to find inside an airport such as a variety of restaurants and bars, bank branches, duty free shops, post office and various information points. In addition there are several extra services such as a chapel, a 24-hour health service, a pharmacy and a left-luggage office in all terminals.
