What to see in Cádiz

The Cathedral of Cádiz, also known as the Eternal Cathedral, is one of the greatest jewels of this city, although it is unfinished. It is located 2.5 km from the centre of Cádiz (8 minutes by car along Av. de las Calesas), near the Town Hall and has a public car park just behind it. It is also surrounded by the Roman Theatre, cheap bars and the Barrio de la Viña, the oldest part of Cádiz.

To enter the historic quarter of Cádiz you must pass through the Puerta de Tierra and its tower, an architectural landmark symbolising the ancient wall at the entrance to the city. It represents the history, culture and commerce of Cádiz and is spectacular by day and night. It can be reached very easily, as it is only 3 minutes away by Av. Cuesta de las Calesas.

Discovering the spectacular beaches of Cádiz is a must. Due to the city's climate, they are ideal to visit at almost any time of the year. Victoria Beach, for example, is 9 minutes away by Av. Andalucía. It is very clean and well kept and has enough services to spend a great day with your family, alone or as a couple. At 27,6 km on the CA-33 (30 minutes) is the Islet of Sancti-Petri in Chiclana. It is worth a visit to learn about the history of its temple, castle and lighthouse. From here it is easy to reach other idyllic beach destinations. One of them, Punta Paloma, is located 47 minutes (41 km) away on the N-340 and A-2233. The route back to Cádiz on the A-2233 leaves wonderful coastal spots such as Zahora (11 minutes) followed by El Palmar (19 minutes) and Conil de la Frontera (23 minutes), before continuing along the A-48 to return to the centre.

February is a good time to visit Cádiz, as this is when the city dresses up for Carnival. The streets are filled with music, costumes, competitions, good food and the atmosphere is full of joy. It is also a good time to try typical Cadiz dishes, such as 'patatas aliñás', 'fritá', Cadiz omelette or a good assortment of fish and seafood.
