What to see in San Sebastian
Thanks to its bay, the city is known as the Pearl of the Bay of Biscay, with the sea and the mountains just a stone's throw away. There is no denying that it is a first class tourist destination. The Wind Comb is a set of steel sculptures by Chillida, embedded in the rock, and is well worth a visit. It is located at one end of the bay of La Concha, 2.6 km (8 minutes by car) along the Paseo de la Concha. It is a spectacular spot to enjoy the sunrise and the views of the city and the sea. This bay is also home to Donosti's two most famous beaches: Ondarreta and La Concha, which combine the urban atmosphere and nature in dreamy walks.
Just 5 minutes by car from the city centre, along Calle de la República Argentina, is the "Parte Vieja" (Old Part). Its narrow streets, full of shops, bars and good atmosphere are the ideal place for tasting pintxos and tapas that will leave you speechless. In particular, in the Barra de Ganbara you can try authentic dishes typical of Basque gastronomy. Within the old town there are also exciting places such as the Basilica María del Coro, the San Telmo Museum and the Plaza de la Constitución.
Santa Clara Island is a real jewel of nature. To get there you have to walk 10 minutes (2.8 km) along the Paseo de la Concha before taking a ferry to the island. There you can enjoy spectacular views and also visit the lighthouse and its old house, both of which are very interesting. The Monte Igueldo viewpoint offers the best and most complete view of San Sebastian, bringing together the city, the bay, the island, the beach and the mountain in the same panoramic view. It is located on top of a hill, a 13-minute (4.9 km) walk along Igeldo Pasealekua. Next to it, there is an amusement park ideal for a family day out. There is also a cable car, a hotel and a small museum. The viewpoint is accessible either on foot or by car, paying an entrance fee of 2 euros to park the car at the top.
