In 1881 the first railway line between Orense and Vigo was inaugurated. Although in its beginnings the station had only this line and a steam train with less than ten wagons, in December 1884, the station increased its capacity by connecting Orense with Monforte de Lemos. The economic crisis of 1928 led to the unification and nationalisation of all railway lines and stations in western Spain. A few years later, in 1941, it would become part of RENFE.
